The Social Engaging Restorative Virtual Environment (SERVE) is a research-based virtual reality
platform designed to support social engagement and cognitive interaction among older adults. This
Privacy Policy explains what information is collected during participation and how it is used, stored, and
protected for the 2A version.

2. Information We Collect
SERVE2A does not collect demographic surveys or questionnaire data. The system collects only
interaction and performance-related data necessary for research and system evaluation, including:
• User voice recordings during conversations within the VR environment.
• Conversation data between participants during collaborative tasks.
• Game performance metrics such as movement trajectories and navigation paths.
• Results of in-game questions or task responses.
• Time required to complete tasks or activities.
No unnecessary personal identifiers are collected beyond what is required under approved research
protocols.

3. Purpose of Data Collection
Collected data is used strictly for research purposes, usability testing, cognitive engagement analysis,
and improvement of the SERVE2A platform. Performance and interaction data help researchers
understand behavioral patterns, communication dynamics, and task engagement within the virtual
environment.

4. Data Storage and Security
All data is stored on secure, institutionally approved servers. Access is limited to authorized research
personnel. Appropriate safeguards such as encrypted storage, secure authentication systems, and
institutional data governance standards are implemented.

5. Data Sharing
SERVE2A does not sell, rent, or commercially distribute participant data. De-identified or aggregated data
may be used in academic publications, conference presentations, or grant reports in accordance with
Institutional Review Board (IRB) approvals.

6. Participant Rights
Participants may withdraw from research participation at any time in accordance with study procedures.
Participants may contact the research team to request clarification regarding data practices.

7. Policy Updates
This Privacy Policy may be updated as research protocols evolve or regulatory requirements change.
